Patricia Marthone is a Medical University Doctor (MUDr, where Medical Doctor [MD] is a sub-title) and a Vice President with the Healthcare Union 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (UHWE) in the Registered Nurses’ Division. Previously she worked on the administrative and management side of Medicine, including being the Director of Business Development and Operations for a series of Office Based Surgical Practices and Clinics in New York City; and was a lead in Research and Quality Assurance for the Palliative Care Department at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Marthone recognizes that when she left patient care to start the executive management track of medicine in her role as Regional Director of the Southeast of the United States for Exablate as the moment her path, and duties, in Healthcare changed forever. It became clear, that dedication to her community philanthropically, and politically, had to reach a greater anthesis with her voice on human rights -and patient- advocacies. Dr. Marthone’s voluntary community involvement spanned from her elected position as Vice President of the 22nd Community District Education Council; being appointed to the 42nd Assembly District’s State Committee Democratic Female’s Director of Health, Education, and Youth Services; and being a Member of the Board of Managers and Chair of the Programs Committee at the Flatbush YMCA.

Dr. Marthone is a child of hardworking Haitian parents who imparted in her early on that loyalty to her roots is not a choice, but a decree. Ultimately, this translated into her commitment and devotion of serving the needs of all immigrants. She is always saying working for a powerful Healthcare Union allows her to continue her community and political involvement, and always be on the right side of history. She believes that paving the right path in the present, means little without assurance that others will walk it, in the future. Thus, she and her husband Carl Lochard of 20 years have ensured that their fervor for helping those who cannot help themselves, is reflected in the passions of their daughter Niles (23 at Yale) and son Laurent (20 at Vanderbilt University).

Dr. Marthone has said, “So, now fate has led me to my true calling. I thought caring for my patients was the most important thing I could do; but then I found my lifelong task of caring for those that care for others. Representation of Workers Rights, Social Justice, and Politics are the three pillars by which I live and labor. 1199 is not a job, it is a way of life that coincides with my deep-seated beliefs. It is my quotidian benediction.”
