New York, NY

In recognition of NYC Immigrant Heritage Week, NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that limited English proficient (LEP) patients can now access MyChart in Simplified Chinese. The patient portal is already available in Arabic, French, and Spanish. These four languages make up 80 percent of the over one million interpretation requests the public health care system received in Fiscal Year 2021. Additional languages are expected to go live on the patient portal later this year. MyChart is a free, convenient, and secure tool that patients can use to manage their health information online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“At NYC Health + Hospitals, we believe that everyone has the right to high-quality, comprehensive health care services regardless of where they were born or what language they speak,” said NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD. “I’m proud of the work we have done and will continue to do to promote understanding and expand equal access to health care.”

“We serve the most linguistically diverse city in the world, and nearly one in three patients is limited English proficient. Meaningful access to care starts with effective communication in our patients’ language,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Director of Operations and Language Services Margarita Larios. “By making MyChart available in Simplified Chinese, we continue to innovate and lead in providing culturally and linguistically responsive healthcare services. With this language expansion, we stand true to our commitment to continue offering high-quality care for all New Yorkers, including our diverse immigrant communities, whose histories, unique cultures and contributions we celebrate this week.”

With MyChart, patients can:

  • View their health record
  • Request prescription refills
  • Schedule primary care visits
  • Attend MyChart video visits
  • Keep track of their medications
  • And more!

An email address is not required to access MyChart. Patients can activate their account using an activation code provided by NYC Health + Hospitals staff. Patients who are concerned about providing an email address are still guaranteed access to their personal health record.

As the nation’s largest municipal public health care system, NYC Health + Hospitals is committed to serving everyone regardless of what language they speak. We offer interpreter services in over 200 languages and dialects, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
