NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue announced today that it is one of only two New York City hospitals recognized for excellence in six or more categories of heart and stroke care by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. This recognition earns NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue a prestigious position on U.S. News and World Report’s list of America’s Best Hospitals for outstanding care of heart and stroke patients.
The recognition was awarded for implementation of the AHA/ASA Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) program, which establish metrics for high standards for care and patient outcomes. The hospital was recognized in six areas:
“We are pleased to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report and the AHA/ASA for providing excellent cardiac and stroke care,” said Dr. Norma Keller, chief of Cardiology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. “We are at the forefront of cardiac care, providing a full range of services and employing a true multidisciplinary team approach. The Cardiology Service and the Stroke Service work closely to ensure a full complement of care for our patients and excellent patient outcomes. We are pleased that the high quality of our work is once again recognized on a national platform, offering reassurance to patients that they should think of us first if ever there’s a need.”
“Congratulations to the Cardiology and Stroke teams, including our doctors, nurses, and quality improvement professionals, for these outstanding achievements in serving our patients,” said William Hicks, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure and Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke are in-hospital programs for improving care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines. Numerous published studies demonstrate the program’s success in achieving significant improvements in patient outcomes, according to AHA. For example, with heart failure, among the proven results are reductions in 30-day readmissions, a measure now used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in determining reimbursement rates.
