Clinical Leadership Fellowship

• Any graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program or current resident on track to graduate from an ACGME-accredited residency program by June 2023
• By start of program, have a current New York State medical and DEA license
• Submit three letters of recommendation, as outlined in Part D of the application

• Demonstrate a commitment to health care quality improvement, health care administration, or population health
• Possess an interest in aspects of health care administration

Other administrative and clinical leaders throughout NYC Health + Hospitals will be part of the program design and delivery.

Each participant will be based in any of the NYC Health + Hospitals acute care facilities, Gotham facilities, or in Central Office. The participant will be required to design and lead a quality improvement or population health-oriented project at the sponsoring facility. Through leading an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and administrative staff, the participant will help advance a goal that is consistent with that facility’s priorities and aligned to NYC Health + Hospitals’ strategic pillars. The aim is for the project to be sustainable after graduation.

Leadership at the NYC Health + Hospital’s facility sponsoring the participant must endorse this project, and the fellow will be expected to present the project and results to the facility and system leadership. The participant will report project progress during relevant hospital quality assurance/ performance improvement (QA/PI), population health, and other leadership committees, and provide a manuscript or poster, suitable for publication at the conclusion of the program.

Examples of these types of improvement or population health-oriented initiatives include:

• Improving cycle time in clinic, emergency room or operating room
• Improving timeliness and appropriateness of care using e-consult and telehealth
• Improving care transitions between settings in an effort to reduce preventable readmission rates for patients with congestive heart failure
• Improving uptake of interventions addressing the social determinants of health (e.g., housing and food insecurity)
• Improving performance in recommended primary care screening tests

The fellowship uses a variety of methods to help participants learn about healthcare administration and quality improvement, including tools and approaches to effectively implement quality improvement, as well as population health-oriented initiatives.

Mentorship
Participants will work with experienced clinical mentors as they progress through the program. They will be given the opportunity to work with facility and system leadership.

Leadership Meetings
Participants will be given the opportunity to participate in local and system level leadership meetings focusing on quality improvement and also strategic topics in the leadership realm. These will expose participants to senior level NYC Health + Hospitals executives who have expertise in operations, population health, quality, patient safety, and finance, among other areas. Participants will become familiar with the use of quality initiatives within a value-based payment environment. Participants may also be involved in root cause analysis, medical/legal conferences, and system-wide Quality Assurance/ Performance Improvement Committee meetings.

In-person Didactic Sessions and Webinars
Participants will be exposed to didactic sessions that will serve as opportunities for structured educational experiences, one-to-one mentoring meetings with faculty and mentors, and reflective learning. Participants will attend NYC Health + Hospitals’ quality assurance/ performance improvement meetings, as well as specific meetings through Ambulatory Care and the Office of Population Health, to gain a depth and breadth of knowledge about a variety of topics that span across health care systems. Regularly scheduled webinars will also include quality improvement and healthcare leadership topics. Participants will review webinars individually or in groups, followed by reflective learning and discussion.

Learning Activities
Participants will be responsible for completing practical learning activities on specific quality improvement and healthcare leadership topics, either alone or in teams, which are presented during in-person meetings. Reading assignments will be expected as well as literature reviews and preparation for didactic sessions and reflective learning. These learning activities are intended to be the practical application of the didactic sessions.

Clinical Experience
Participants will be expected to maintain clinical excellence by providing clinical care outside the scope of their fellowship project and other learning activities. While they will be expected to spend 70% of their time on fellowship activities, they will also allot 30% to delivering care in their clinical specialty. Specific hours and schedules will be individualized to ensure that each participant is able to attend required meetings and didactic sessions.

Fundamentals of Leadership and Administration
Learn fundamentals of healthcare leadership and administration, including financial analysis, management skills, resource management, and strategic thinking.

Population Health Approach to Improve Outcomes
Learn essential components of a population health-oriented approach, including a focus on proactive delivery of care, social determinants of health, innovative uses of technology and data, and effective interventions for high-risk, high-need patients.

Team Facilitation and Change Management
Garner didactic and practical experience using change management techniques and engagement tools, working with interdisciplinary teams, and facilitating teams.

Fundamentals of Quality Improvement and Science of Quality Measurement
Review quality improvement essentials, with a focus on how this science has been translated and used in health care. During these teachings, policy and regulatory developments that may impact health care quality and patient safety in the future will be discussed.

Methods and Tools For Quality Improvement
Discuss approaches to selecting measures for quality improvement initiatives across inpatient and outpatient settings. Learn how to effectively use data in planning quality improvement and population health-oriented projects and how to use several quality improvement tools. During these teachings, participants will learn the basics of run and control charts, planned experimentation, using small tests of change, and engaging in other tools for measuring and improving. Use of health information technology in measuring and improving quality will also be discussed.

Developing and Implementing Quality Improvement Initiatives
Learn strategies for launching comprehensive quality improvement initiatives and engaging key leadership and stakeholders throughout the hospital while implementing, sustaining, and spreading improvements across the organization.

Designing Safe Systems and Building a “Just” Culture
Review the evidence of how patient safety has emerged as a critical focus issue in health care and explain concepts and tools used to achieve optimal outcomes. Explore how to create a “Just” culture that values patient safety and transparency.

Patrick Milord

Patrick Milord, MD, MBA is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Managed Care and Patient Growth. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Milord served as a board-certified anesthesiologist and private practice interventional pain management physician for the Brooklyn and Queens communities.

After completing a general surgery internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, Dr. Milord went on to complete his anesthesiology residency training and subsequent interventional pain management fellowship, both at NYU Langone Health. While at NYU, he served on the House Staff Leadership Committee to advocate on behalf of all house staff and to assist in the evaluation of resident/fellow performance metrics. Dr. Milord also served on the GME Council Diversity Committee, helping to develop practices with executive leadership that aligned with institutional DEI goals.

Dr. Milord is committed to organizational efficiency and optimizing resource utilization. During residency, he led a project analyzing operating room surgical add-on case data and helped create a model to streamline anesthesiology nurse staffing. Dr. Milord strives to improve workplace culture, accountability measures, and patient safety protocols.

Dr. Milord earned his MD with Distinctions in Research and Community Service from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He received an MBA in Healthcare Sciences Management, as well as Competitive & Organizational Strategy, from the University of Rochester Simon Business School, and graduated with a BS in Neuroscience and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Tamara Kliot

Tamara Kliot, MD is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Kliot completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Maryland. During residency, she created a resident social justice curriculum, implemented a screening tool to better connect patient families with resources during the COVID pandemic, and collaborated with a cardiac intensive care unit in Ethiopia to develop an educational curriculum. Prior to residency, she was a high school science teacher at Chalmette High School through Teach for America in Louisiana. Dr. Kliot has trained and worked in many places within the United States and internationally. She is committed to improving access to healthcare for all and ensuring our healthcare system practices equitable care.

Dr. Kliot earned her MD from Ben Gurion University of the Negev and a BA in Health and Humanity from the University of Southern California.

Stasha O’Callaghan

Stasha O’Callaghan, MD is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem Hospital. Prior to fellowship, Dr. O’Callaghan completed her emergency medicine residency at Bellevue and NYU Langone Hospitals. During residency, she led many initiatives aimed at advancing health equity at NYU including launching a comprehensive ED to outpatient referral and scheduling program to improve transitions of care for all and a relaunch of a patient Financial Assistance Program. She also led the VotER program at both the Bellevue and NYU sites during the 2020 election year, helped to start a Vaccine Scheduler Program throughout NYC when COVID-19 vaccines were difficult to access, and advocated for Black lives and fair treatment of health care workers through organizing and grassroots efforts throughout her residency.

In medical school, Dr. O’Callaghan was involved in global health work including qualitative research on attitudes about the HPV vaccine in Central Chile as well as multiple projects aimed at increasing the ethics and accountability of global health programming abroad. She hopes to continue her work of advancing health equity, diversity in medicine, and social justice through the CLF program at Health and Hospitals. She is a member of the Gold Humanism Honors Society.

Kaushal Khambhati

Kaushal Khambhati, MD, is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Medical & Professional Affairs. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Khambhati completed his emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. During residency, he was a fellow in Jacobi’s Healthcare Administration Scholars Program, examined the use of EPIC Secure Chat and time to CT scan image acquisition. Prior to medical school, Dr. Khambhati worked in the Electronic Health Records space for EPIC Systems. He is passionate about providing access to high quality care to the underserved populations of New York City.

Dr. Khambhati earned his MD from Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He received his BS in applied mathematics, concentrating in computational biology, from Northwestern University.

Jason Raggi

Jason Raggi, DO is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality and Safety. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. He completed his emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. During residency, Dr. Raggi completed multiple research projects including deoxygenation/renitrogenation in healthy patients, meta-analysis of emergency medicine literature and work on various QI projects throughout the ED improving airway preparedness, as well as working with central office to improve the interfacility transfer process. He was also part Lincoln’s Patient Safety Committee working closely with the CMO and other administrators tackling issues throughout the hospital.

Dr. Raggi earned his DO from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and his BS from Wake Forest University.

Leo Gordon Eisenstein

Leo Gordon Eisenstein is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leaders Fellow in the Office of Population Health. He will see patients in the primary care clinic at Kings County Hospital. He is also a member of the advisory council for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Committee to End Racism in Clinical Algorithms. Leo completed residency training in Internal Medicine (primary care track) at NYU and Bellevue Hospitals. During residency, he served as a union delegate for the Committee of Interns & Residents (CIR-SEIU), the country’s largest residents union. During medical school, Leo was involved in community organizing efforts around harm reduction and opioid overdose prevention. Prior to medical school, he worked at an HIV clinic in NYC that specializes in providing care to people with histories of incarceration.

Leo received his MD at Harvard Medical School and his BA at Brown University.

Junaid Anwar

Junaid Anwar, MD is a 2022-2023 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi + NCB, where he will also be conducting his clinical practice in the Department of Hospital Medicine. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Anwar completed his Internal Medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he served as a front line provider from the onset of COVID pandemic. This brewed his interest in Acute/Critical Care medicine as well as career opportunities in academic administration and leadership. Dr. Anwar took part in clinical research looking at efficacy of various treatment options for critically ill/intubated patients from COVID infection.

Dr. Anwar earned his M.D. at St. Georges University School of Medicine. Dr. Anwar was inducted in Gold Humanism Honors Society as a 4th year medical student. He worked as an Adjust Lecturer teaching general chemistry labs at City College of New York CUNY after earning his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the same institute.

Shivali Choxi

Shivali Choxi MD, is a 2021 – 2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

Dr. Choxi earned her doctor of medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C. While there, she was awarded the Health Services Scholarship for innovative and impactful global health research. She went on to complete her pediatric residency training at NYU Langone Health. During residency, she focused on quality improvement research. She led initiatives centered on enhancing the quality and safety of the hospital discharge process and improving the management of diabetic ketoacidosis in the intensive care unit.

Dr. Choxi has a keen interest in primary care innovation and patient advocacy as a means of improving public health outcomes. She hopes to continue improving the lives of her patients by providing culturally conscious care supported by systems-wide solutions that extend beyond the doors of the doctor’s office.

Dr. Choxi earned her BS in political science at The George Washington University.

Kyle Koster

Kyle Koster, MD, MS is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Medical and Professional Affairs. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Koster completed internal medical residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. During residency, he led quality improvement projects including designing a discharge checklist for patients with indwelling pleural catheters and implementing a new signout system to enhance resident-nurse communication. He also led initiatives in response to the COVID-19 crisis, including forming a team of contributors to provide emerging scientific literature to frontline clinicians and educating providers and nurses on prone positioning in awake non-intubated patients with severe COVID-19.

Dr. Koster earned his MD and MS in microbiology and immunology from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and received his BS in neuroscience from Texas Christian University.

Julie Hyppolite

Julie Hyppolite, MD, MPH is a 2021-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care, division of Population Health. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Gunhill. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Hyppolite completed her family medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center. During residency, she served as chief resident of the Department of Family and Social Medicine, and site coordinator of Reach Out and Read, an evidence based program to promote child literacy. Dr. Hyppolite’s research has focused on addressing obesity and health disparities research. She received the The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, Philadelphia Branch Award, from the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Hyppolite earned her MD and MPH at Drexel University and her BA in political science from University of Notre Dame.

Peter Alarcon Manchego

Peter Alarcon Manchego, MD, MS is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Alarcon Manchego completed his pediatrics residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. During residency, he served as the pediatric ambulatory chief resident, was part of Jacobi’s inaugural class of Healthcare Administration Scholars Fellows and helped develop resident education curriculum and policy. Dr. Alarcon Manchego’s research has focused on implementing an asthma clinical pathway to reduce length of stay, adopting an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare education and culture, and cardiac surgical outcomes in low birth weight and pre-term infants. Dr. Alarcon is interested in primary care pediatrics, specifically helping underserved communities, and is passionate on utilizing technology to improve access to care and empower patients. Dr. Alarcon’s training experience spans Melbourne, Australia, Bronx, NY, Boston, Massachusetts and Lima, Peru. He received a Letter of Commendation for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching in 2020.

Dr. Alarcon Manchego earned his MD from the University of Melbourne and his MS in human nutrition from Columbia University. He received his BS in earth sciences from Rice University.

Jonathan Meldrum

Jonathan Meldrum, MBBS is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Meldrum completed his emergency medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. During residency, he co-chaired a taskforce to improve the care of patients experiencing homelessness in the ED, utilizing Community Based Participatory Research, and worked in Palestine on a World Bank funded project to strengthen emergency care in the West Bank. Prior to residency, he worked as National Director of Medsin-UK (now Students for Global Health) a UK nonprofit focused on health equity, served on the European Board of the international advocacy organization Universities Allied for Essential Medicines, and worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization in the Department of Essential Medicines and Health Products. His research has focused on improved access to essential medicines, measuring the impact of investments in global health and improving health outcomes of persons experiencing homeless.

Dr. Meldrum earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at University of Oxford and University College London and his BA in medical sciences from University of Oxford.

Alexander Meyers

Alexander Meyers, DO is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Meyers completed his emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. During residency, he participated in the Healthcare Administration Scholars Program, a two-year fellowship focused on the practical application of healthcare administration and quality improvement. His projects during this time focused on expected wait time and dwell time in the ER. Prior to medical school, he worked as a research analyst for the Wall Street law firm of Hughes Hubbard & Reed.

Dr. Meyers earned his at DO at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, his BS in economics from Quinnipiac University and completed a post baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University.

Leland Soiefer

Leland Soiefer, MD, is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Managed Care and Patient Growth. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan in outpatient primary care.
Prior to fellowship, Dr. Soiefer completed residency training in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell. During residency, he designed an initiative to improve the hospital discharge medication list, for which he earned intramural grant funding. He also worked on a project to better understand hospital readmissions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Soiefer is interested in helping to make healthcare delivery more cost-effective, prevention-focused, and equitable.

Dr. Soiefer earned his MD at New York University School of Medicine and his BA in psychology from New York University.

Michael Shen

Michael S. Shen MD is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Shen completed his Internal Medicine residency at NYU, as part of the Primary Care track. There, he participated in the Bellevue High Value Care Council and Patient Wellness Committee, and gave lectures on the intersection between medicine, the media, and art. Dr. Shen is a producer and illustrator on the podcast, “Core IM”, where he has created educational episodes for medical professionals in collaboration with the American College of Physicians. He received a Rudin Fellowship in Medical Humanities to explore communication in serious illness, resulting in publications in the Annals of Internal Medicine and AMA Journal of Ethics. He has been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honors Society.

Dr. Shen earned his MD from New York Medical College and received his BA in Biological Sciences from Cornell University.

Talia Walker

Talia Walker, MD, MPH is a 2021-2022 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Medical & Professional Affairs. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Walker served as an Emergency Medicine Envoy Physician, where she traveled to multiple cities and states providing care at emergency departments with low supply of local physicians. Dr. Walker completed her emergency medicine residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- New Orleans. During residency, she designed and implemented original research on emergency room overuse for low-acuity complaints. Dr. Walker was also a Clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Walker earned her MD at Weill Cornell Medical College and her MPH at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She received her BA in Evolutionary Biology of Humans from Columbia University.

Gina Siddiqui

Gina Siddiqui, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Siddiqui completed her residency at Yale’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Gina took two years out of medical school to start a telemedicine company in San Francisco that coordinated access to specialists. Dr. Siddiqui is interested in how we can modernize medicine better with medical and non-medical audiences. She’s spoken around the country on this topic, and her written work has been published in TIME, Quartz, Scientific American, and The New York Times.

Dr. Siddiqui earned her MD at the University of Pennsylvania and her BS at the University of Delaware, Lerner College of Business and Economics.

Ayrenne Adams

Ayrenne Adams, MD, MPH is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care, division of Population Health. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Governor. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Adams completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During residency, she served as chief resident and co-chair of the BWH Social Justice Committee. Dr. Adams’ research has focused on disparities in primary care and social medicine and she has developed numerous advocacy and teaching curriculum. She received the Martin P. Solomon Primary Care Scholarship Award and the Edward R. Lovelace Memorial Award for a Distinguished Contribution in the Health Field from the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Adams earned her MD and MPH at Emory University and received her AB in history from Duke University.

Lara Musser

Lara Musser, DO is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. She completed her emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan and Harlem. During residency, Dr. Musser served as Resident director of both Simulation and Resident Education. She worked on multiple quality improvement projects, including antibiotic stewardship in the express care area of the ER, as well the Wholesome Wave project, aimed at improving the health status of patients in East Harlem through increased access to nutritious food. She also served as a preceptor and mentor to medical students at New York Medical College. Dr. Musser is dedicated to working with underserved, vulnerable communities, and improving systemic issues facing our current health care system.

Dr. Musser completed her medical training at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned a BS in genetics from University of California, Davis and completed a post-baccalaureate program at San Francisco State University in pre-health professions.

Sara Guevara

Sara Guevara, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Cumberland.

Dr. Guevara completed her family medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center. During residency, she was the co-leader of the Montefiore Immigration Working Group, a network and interdisciplinary team of providers who value the mission to provide access to healthcare for all regardless of immigration status. She was also a board member of the Student Clinic at Esperanza/Hope Clinic and received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and a Teaching Commendation from Office of Medical Education of Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Guevara is interested in improving the implementation of interventions that address the social determinants of health, particularly access to health, social and legal resources for patients with immigration status concerns.

Dr. Guevara received her MD from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and her BS with honors in human biology, health and disease from Brown University.

PJ Rosenstock

PJ Rosenstock, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office Medical & Professional Affairs. He will conduct his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

Dr. Rosenstock completed his internal medicine residency training at UCLA — Olive View Medical Center. While at UCLA Olive View, Dr. Rosenstock conduct performance improvement on heart failure and research on targeted screening and early treatment of Chagas cardiac disease. Prior to residency and medical school, Dr. Rosenstock worked as a high school math and science teacher for Teach for America in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Rosenstock received his MD from the Tufts University School of Medicine. He graduated with a BS in life sciences from the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University.

Jennifer Drouet

Jennifer Drouet, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality & Safety. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. She completed her emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. During residency, Dr. Drouet participated in the All Bronx SONOWARS. She worked on several research and quality improvement projects, including improving Narcan distribution in the ER and improving patient satisfaction at triage.

Dr. Drouet earned her MD from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and her BS from CUNY Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. Dr. Drouet was born at NYC Health + Hospitals Bellevue and raised in NYC, and she is passionate about serving the diverse populations of NYC.

Emilie O’Neill

Emilie O’Neill, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York. Dr. O’Neill completed her residency training at the Yale Primary Care Residency Program, where she was awarded the John W. Brackett Award for Resident Teacher. She served as chief resident for the primary care and medicine/pediatrics residency program during the 2019 – 2020 year.

Dr. O’Neill has worked on several projects, including expanding referrals for patients with uncontrolled hypertension and without primary care physicians, streamlining the workflow for inpatient consults to internal medicine, and communication between providers and non-physician staff on the housestaff general medical floor.

Dr. O’Neill earned her MD from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She received her BA in English Literature from the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Risa Bochner

Risa Bochner, MD is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings in Brooklyn. She will conduct her clinical practice as a pediatric hospitalist.

Dr. Bochner completed her pediatric residency and chief residency at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in Bronx, NY. She recently completed her pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center and received her Advanced Certificate in Public Health from SUNY Downstate School of Public Health. She is currently working on a Master’s in Public Health in Epidemiology through the SUNY Downstate School of Public Health.

Dr. Bochner is interested in improving the quality of care for hospitalized children, particularly in promoting evidence-based high-value care and standardization of care. She is currently involved as a local site leader for a multi-site national research and quality improvement collaborative that studies infants who present with Brief Resolved Unexplained Events (BRUEs).
Dr Bochner received her MD from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and her BA in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.

Rashi Bamzai

Rashi Bamzai, MD, MBA is a 2020-2021 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow at Woodhull Hospital. She will conduct her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals, Woodhull. She completed her Pediatric residency and Chief Resident year at University of Rochester and is currently a Pediatric Hospitalist at Woodhull Hospital and the Director of Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement in the Pediatric Department. Prior to residency, she worked on multiple projects that bridged engineering, business and medicine, allowing her to leverage her diverse training.

Dr. Bamzai is interested in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction through meaningful implementation of Quality improvement measures, value based healthcare, patient advocacy, and business management.

Dr. Bamzai received her MD from the University of Illinois, her BS in Biomedical Engineering with a Minor in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve, a Masters in Engineering Management from Duke University, and an MBA from University of Rochester.

Alexander (Alex) Bryan

Alex Bryan, MD, MPH was a 2019-2020 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Population Health. He conducted his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur during the fellowship and continues to practice there. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Bryan completed his residency at Montefiore’s Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program, with an emphasis on providing care to underserved populations with complex medical and psychosocial needs. Dr. Bryan’s main area of interest is focused on diet-related chronic disease in low-income communities. His research includes peer-reviewed publications on nutrition and emergency food resources in the South Bronx. During his training, he also served on the executive board of the American Public Health Association (APHA) as Chair of APHA’s Student Assembly.

Dr. Bryan earned his MD and MPH at Thomas Jefferson University, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Architecture from the University of Minnesota.

Ross Kristal

Ross Kristal, MD, was a 2019-2020 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Care. He conducted his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Belvis during the fellowship and continues to practice there. Dr. Kristal received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and was the recipient of the Isadore Rossman Memorial Award for Commitment to Community Health. He completed his internship and residency training at the Yale Primary Care Residency Program and was awarded the Yale University School of Medicine Primary Care Recognition Award. Subsequently, Dr. Kristal, served as the Chief Medicine Resident for Advocacy and Community Health for the Yale Primary Care Residency Program. During this time, he was selected to be a National Physicians Alliance Copello Fellow. Dr. Kristal is a general internist, who works with his patients to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Jillian Diuguid-Gerber

Jillian Diuguid-Gerber, MD was a 2019-2020 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Population Health. She conducted her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue during the fellowship and now practices at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. Dr. Diuguid-Gerber attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award. She recently completed her residency in New York University’s Primary Care Internal Medicine program, working at Bellevue and Gouverneur, facilitating quality improvement and care transitions projects.

As a clinician, she plans to work in comprehensive primary care for high-risk, high-need, high-cost patients. Beyond the clinic, her interests lie in understanding structural determinants of health, specifically in transforming the structures that worsen people’s health and prevent people from receiving health care.

Dr. Diuguid-Gerber graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School, studying International Studies and Business and completed a post baccalaureate program at Columbia University.

Madden Rowell

Madden Rowell, MD was a 2019 -2020 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Ambulatory Cace. She conducted her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Morissania during the fellowship and continues to practice there. She completed her medical school training at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C. While there, Madden oversaw a nutrition education and counseling program at the student run free clinic. Madden completed residency in internal medicine at the Yale Primary Care program. As a resident, she participated in the Quality Improvement and Physician Leadership distinction and created an electronic referral system that enabled patient participation in a community-based nutrition program. In addition to nutrition and community health, Madden is interested in primary care innovation and medical humanities.

Louis Hart

Louis Hart III, MD was a 2019-2020 NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellow in the Office of Quality and Safety. He conducted his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue during the fellowship and now practices at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Hart completed his residency in Pediatrics at NYU Langone Health / Bellevue Hospital Center. He has a keen interest in business management and health policy, having worked in the Office of the Chair of the Senate Health Committee in California, and as a business solutions expert at Apple, Inc., prior to his residency.

Dr. Hart’s career passions include pediatric hospital medicine, value based healthcare, physician lead patient advocacy, and quality. He was a founding member of the Clinical Quality Improvement – NYU Langone Health High Reliability Organization (HRO) House Staff Committee.

Dr. Hart earned his doctor of medicine at University of California, San Diego and his BA from Vanderbilt University.
