Health System’s Senior Vice President for Managed Care and Patient Growth Named to Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Emerging Leaders List

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that Senior Vice President for Managed Care and Patient Growth Matthew Siegler is among Modern Healthcare’s 2022 class of Top Emerging Leaders. Modern Healthcare annually honors emerging leaders all age 40 or under, who have made significant contributions in the areas of innovation and financial, operational and clinical excellence early in their careers. Siegler is recognized for developing and implementing the strategy behind NYC Health + Hospitals’ financial turnaround. When he joined the system in January 2018, NYC Health + Hospitals was facing a $1.8B structural deficit. Thanks to Siegler’s leadership, the system was able to close that deficit by growing revenue, expanding access, and focusing on value-based care rather than shutting down facilities or eliminating services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Siegler helped lead the planning to open new intensive care and medical/surgical surge units as well as the patient level-loading process. Before the pandemic, Siegler oversaw the complete overhaul of NYC Health + Hospitals’ transportation system, which enabled the public health care system to level-load thousands of patients to prevent any of our hospitals from collapsing.

Siegler joined NYC Health + Hospitals from Kaiser Permanente where he led key strategic and advocacy efforts across Kaiser’s commercial and government business, with a focus on public exchanges, large national employer groups, and planning for federal efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Earlier, Siegler served in the Obama Administration as an operational, policy, and communications leader on the staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council. He has also served on the staff of Congressman Henry Waxman, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, Johns Hopkins University, and Harvard College.
