Dr. Nermica Sarcevic has been Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, since 2014. She joined Jacobi as a staff psychiatrist in 2001. In addition, she is associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Sarcevic is recognized for her enthusiastic devotion to patients, staff and medical students at Jacobi. Innovation is her hallmark. Her protocols for her department, one of the busiest and high-risk services at the hospital, have reduced inpatient length of stay and readmissions. She was responsible for synthesizing a suicide-risk scaling protocol.

Dr. Sarcevic’s emphasis on Quality Care is recognized by her colleagues as well as HHC Central Office. She is universally admired by colleagues, staff and medical students at Jacobi. Her commitment to medical and staff education is highlighted by her innovative teaching style. It has inspired two generations of students at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, many of whom have become interns and residents at Jacobi.

Dr. Sarcevic is a graduate of University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she was also served an internship. In addition, she was an associate professor at her alma mater. She was an intern and resident at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. Dr. Sarcevic is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Society of Clinical Pharmacology. She also was a two-time nominee for an APA/Glaxo Wellcome Fellowship.
