Dr. Ponnusamy Shanmugham is an attending physician at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler, where he has worked since 1983. He also is President of the Medical Staff.

According to his supervisors and colleagues, Dr. Shanmugham has an unwavering commitment to patient care. His tremendous clinical acumen has allowed him to improve the quality of life for many complex and chronically ill residents.

Dr. Shanmugham is a model leader, proven by assisting his clinical team in moments of difficulties and adversities. He has proven his dedication to the mission of NYC Health + Hospitals and his passion for public service.

Dr. Shanmugham is a graduate of the Madras Medical College, University of Madras, India. He served residencies at the Government General Hospital, Madras; Misericordia Hospital and Medical Center, The Bronx, NY, and at St. Clare’s Hospital, New York, NY. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
