Svetlana Kalimulina, MD

Dr. Kalimulina’s clinical expertise, curiosity, and caring are essential to the vulnerable and ill patient population housed in the Rikers Island North Infirmary Command. Dr. Kalimulina has thrived in the challenging practice environment of the male infirmary, which draws the sickest patients from among 55,000 admissions to the jails each year. She is a leader among her peers, taking complete ownership of her patients and advocating on their behalf. Her colleagues note that her clinical knowledge and meticulous approach have led to countless breakthroughs in diagnosis and management among chronically ill patients.

Before her work with Correctional Health, Dr. Kalimulina was a physician at Terence Cardinal Cooke Healthcare Center. She completed postdoctoral training as a Fellow in Geriatrics, rotating among several teaching sites including NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and the former HHC Goldwater campus. Before that, she had an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran Medical Center. Previously, she had served as researcher assistant for clinical trials held at Lutheran Medical Center and at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Kalimulina is a graduate of the Dniepropetrovsk State Medical Academy, Ukraine, and earned her Doctor of Medicine from Russian State Medical University, Russia.
