Clinical Leadership Fellowship Application Live for 2022-2023

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced the open application period for the Clinical Leadership Fellowship, a one-year opportunity designed for post-residency graduates interested in administrative roles within the nation’s largest public hospital system. Fellows are assigned to teams within the public health system’s offices of quality, population health, ambulatory care, managed care and patient growth, or medical and professional affairs to acquire hands-on, practical work experience, supplemented with participation in leadership meetings and developing and leading a substantial project within these teams. In addition to their primary administrative responsibilities, fellows also provide clinical care outside their fellowship activities, ensuring they can provide care to some of the City’s most vulnerable patients. The application deadline for the fellowship is Friday, October 29, 2021.

“Year-over-year, we’ve seen each class of Clinical Leadership fellows provide insightful and innovative ideas to support our health system’s clinical and administrative priorities – from our emphasis on primary care, emergency management around the pandemic, and now continuing to make headway with vaccinating New Yorkers against COVID-19,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President of Managed Care and Patient Growth Matthew Siegler.
The curriculum for the fellows includes fundamentals of leadership and administration, population health approaches to improving outcomes, team facilitation and change management, fundamentals of quality improvement and science of quality measurement, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, and designing safe systems and building a “just” culture. As part of their participation, fellows will be required to design and lead a quality improvement or population health-oriented project at their sponsoring facility.
“I have had the pleasure of working with a number of Clinical Leadership Fellows that have played critical roles in some of our health system’s biggest initiatives, such as NYC Care and our COVID-19 response through the Test & Trace Corps,” said Dr. Ted Long, Executive Director of the NYC Test &Trace Corps and Senior Vice President for Ambulatory Care and Population Health at NYC Health + Hospitals.

The 2021 – 2022 class of fellows will begin their fellowship on July 19, 2021. The fellowship class includes the following participants:
- Dr. Shivali Choxi, assigned to the Office of Ambulatory Care, and conducting her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue
- Dr. Kyle Koster, assigned to the Office of Medical and Professional Affairs, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue
- Dr. Julie Hyppolite, assigned to the Office of Ambulatory Care, division of Population Health, and conducting her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Gunhill
- Dr. Peter Alarcon Manchego, assigned to the Office of Quality and Safety, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
- Dr. Jonathan Meldrum, assigned to the Office of Quality & Safety, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
- Dr. Alexander Meyers, assigned to the Office of Quality & Safety, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem
- Dr. Leland Soiefer, assigned to the Office of Managed Care and Patient Growth, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan
- Dr. Michael Shen, assigned to the Office of Ambulatory Care, and conducting his clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst
- Dr. Talia Walker, assigned to the Office of Medical and Professional Affairs, and conducting her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln
- Dr. Mona Saleh, assigned to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County and conducting her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
- Dr. Shalini Arora, assigned to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County and conducting her clinical practice at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
Dr. Mona Saleh and Dr. Shalani Arora will be Clinical Leadership Fellows based at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, and will conduct their administrative and clinical time there.
The previous classes of fellows have played critical roles in NYC Health + Hospitals’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including leading volunteer physician recruitment and vaccination efforts, and supporting level-loading processes to reduce hospital strain. Additionally, the fellows have helped lead major system-wide initiatives related to health IT optimization, operating room efficiency improvements, and social determinants of health. Fellows also played roles implementing and expanding NYC Care, the health care access program for New Yorkers who cannot afford or are not eligible for health insurance, and have been instrumental in the System’s health equity and racial justice initiatives.

Physicians who have completed or are on track to graduate from an ACGME-accredited residency program prior to July 1, 2022 can apply. The application deadline is October 29, 2021. Applications will be reviewed and interviews conducted on a rolling basis.
