The Department of Urology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens is a leader in providing surgical treatment of urological disorders, including erectile dysfunction and diseases of the prostate, kidney and bladder. When possible, surgery is done with minimally invasive procedures, enabling a quicker recovery and faster return to normal daily activities.

Treatment for Kidney Disease and Kidney Stones

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens urological department performs both partial and radical kidney operations, or nephrectomies, on patients with diseased organs. NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens also excels in the removal of kidney stones, the most common problem of the urinary tract, and is one of the few hospitals in Queens to offer shockwave lithotripsy, or non-invasive treatment of kidney stones using an acoustic pulse.

Urological Oncology

The Department of Urology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens offers patients a full range of techniques to help fight urologic cancers, including those of the prostate, bladder, kidney and testes. Utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach, surgeons develop and adopt the most recent and best surgical and medical therapies available. We work closely with the departments of medical radiation and surgical oncology to ensure that our patients receive the full benefit of our hospital’s expertise in all facets of urological oncology.

Robotic Assisted Prostate Surgery

For cases that demand more severe intervention, such as malignancies of the prostate, NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens offers both radical prostatectomy and robotic surgery. For the patient, a robotic assisted procedure, using the da Vinci Surgical System, can offer all the potential benefits of a minimally invasive procedure, including less pain, less blood loss and less need for blood transfusions. Even more important is the robot’s record in preserving erectile function and urinary continence after prostate surgery.
