Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

NYC Health + Hospitals offers free services to meet the unique communication needs of patients and families who may be deaf or hard of hearing. Services include sign language interpreting services, closed captioning on TV’s, TTY equipment and other assistive listening devices.

In addition, Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients at NYC Health + Hospitals have free access to the following additional services:

  • Sign Language Interpreters – In-person, qualified sign language interpreters are available through the Patient Relations Department at all times for patients, family and caregivers.
  • Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) – Sign language interpreters are also available through video services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) – Available for patients or families who are deaf or hard of hearing.
