Volunteer Requirements and Commitment

Adult Program Requirements (18 Years or Older)

Please call or e-mail the Volunteer Office for application availability. Applications must be completed electronically. Contact us at cihvolunteer@nychhc.org or 718-616-3161. Submission of application does not guarantee interview or placement.

Onboarding requirements include:

• Must complete health assessment that includes tuberculosis (TB) screening and blood work for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (MMRV) titers.
• Must Complete mandatory orientation
• Some programs require additional trainings
• Prospective volunteers must complete a drug test conducted by the Hospital
• Minimum time commitment of 150 hours and at least 6 months (year-round).
• Regular weekly five-hour shift

Junior Program Requirements (Ages 16-17)

Please contact the Volunteer Office for application availability (note that we will be unable to accept Junior volunteers until further notice).

• Parent/guardian permission required
• Working papers
• Must complete health assessment that includes tuberculosis (TB) screening and blood work for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV) titers.
• Prospective volunteers must complete a drug test conducted by the Hospital
• Must complete mandatory orientation
• Some programs require additional trainings
• Minimum time commitment of 150 hours and at least 6 months (year-round).
• Regular weekly three to five hour shift

Reference Form Requirements

After interview and upon acceptance, you will have up to three weeks to submit two reference forms. These forms may be written by either professional or personal contacts (e.g., employer, co-worker, professor, teacher, neighbor, friend, pastor-no family members please). Submit completed reference forms via email to CIHVolunteer@nychhc.org or fax to 718-616-4782.
