Cardiac Catheterization

This diagnostic medical procedure offers a highly accurate way to check the chambers of the heart and to measure blood flow in the coronary arteries.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island has recently upgraded our Cardiac Catheterization suite with a new state-of-the-art Philips Allura C digital X-ray imaging system.

Digital coronary angiography provides the cardiologist with instantaneous review and comprehensive analysis of cardiac anatomy and cardiac structures during the procedure. Films, chemistry, projectors, and all the associated maintenance involved are virtually eliminated.

For patients it means up to a 30 to 50 percent reduction in radiation levels, earlier diagnosis, which leads to speedier treatment, and more rapid discharge.

Cardiac Stress Testing

Our board-certified cardiologists perform these tests under strict guidelines and according to the clinical protocols. We provide patients who cannot walk on a treadmill with an alternative stress test that they can take lying down.

Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island takes pride in its Cardiac Diagnostic Center, with board-certified cardiologists available for consultation.

Our Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center helps cardiac patients and those with pulmonary disease regain and maintain an optimal level of functioning. Rehabilitation is centered on a medically supervised, graded exercise-training program. Other program components, tailored for each individual, include health education, nutrition, weight control, stress reduction, anxiety/depression management, sexual counseling, and smoking cessation.
