Gastroenterology

The Division of Gastroenterology (ailments of the digestive system) provides assistance and consultation to referring physicians on all aspects of care for adult patients with suspected or diagnosed gastrointestinal or liver disease.

The service offers a variety of procedures including:

  • Upper endoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a technique used to diagnose and treat conditions such as gallstones
  • Liver biopsy, performed by the Hepatology Clinic
  • Endoscopic treatments, such as the removal of polyps and the placement of gastric feeding tubes for patients, such as stroke victims, who cannot take food by mouth
