Our Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit, one of the finest in Brooklyn, screens for colon cancer and can actually remove polyps before they develop into cancer.

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit strongly recommends Colonoscopy for everyone 50 years of age and older. Here’s why:

• Colon cancer causes more than 1,500 deaths each year in New York City, despite being nearly 100% curable if detected early
• Men are at higher risk than women for developing colorectal cancer
• The risk of developing colon cancer increases with age

NYC Health + Hospitals offers colonoscopies at little or no cost. Based on program eligibility requirements. If you have health insurance, your plan will be billed and co-payments may apply. Financial counselors are available to discuss payment options. Colon cancer screening is provided passed on a clinical assessment.
