All patients with suspected stroke are evaluated rapidly in the Emergency Department, and appropriate treatment is started immediately. For qualifying patients, clot dissolving therapy (tPA) is administered and/or advanced catheter-based treatment is used to directly remove or dissolve clot within the vessels of the brain. We have a team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, emergency physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and an interventional neuroradiologist who are experienced in the treatment of stroke. This team approach reduces the risk of death and of permanent disability.
We collaborate closely with our Emergency Department staff to find ways to improve work flow when patients come for acute stroke. Early recognition of the F.A.S.T. warning signs of a stroke is key to prompt diagnosis and treatment. Our goal is providing treatment effectively and as quickly as possible upon arrival in the emergency room.
