The Department of Internal Medicine provides comprehensive primary and secondary care. The Department includes the following divisions:
Woodhull has one of the lowest rates of ventilator-acquired pneumonia in the country, which has been recognized by the National Association of Public Hospitals.
Our combined medical and surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was recognized by the National Leapfrog Group, which evaluates hospitals on quality measures, for being staffed by “Intensivists” who are specially trained to care for the critically ill.
The Hepatology Clinic provides the most advanced therapy available for the treatment of liver disease. The clinic has an effective referral for transplantation and is staffed by a nationally renowned Hepatologist.
Staffed by an attending physician and a nurse practitioner, the clinic periodically monitors patients who are taking the anticoagulant medication, Coumadin, to ensure safe and effective administration.
As part of an initiative to save lives by increasing the early detection of colon cancers, the Gastroenterology Clinic offers free colon cancer screenings. Free colonoscopies are available to eligible uninsured patients.
The Department of Medicine is committed to creating and implementing effective chronic disease management strategies in partnership with our patients to fight diabetes, asthma, depression, and other serious chronic diseases. Our Diabetic Center of Excellence emphasizes not only treatment but also prevention and early detection. To provide more effective care to diabetics, we use a computerized monitoring tool known as an electronic disease registry to track care.
