Pediatric Residency Program Director: Magda Mendez, MD
Welcome to the Pediatric Residency Program website at Lincoln Medical Center!
Thank you for your interest.
I am very proud of our residency program and of the experience we provide for you. We have a structured, collegial and supportive learning environment that affords trainees a high degree of autonomy. The patient population is very diverse and the hospital and the program dedicates many efforts to advocate for the community.
I am a graduate of this residency program. I have been more than thrilled to continue my career teaching and caring for patients in the South Bronx. I supervise residents on the outpatient clinic at Lincoln. My passion is all about cultivating resident teaching skills, training our residents in primary care pediatrics, and in preparing them for the certification exam. I am super proud of the quality of our graduates. The training they receive in Lincoln prepares them well for a career of their choice in, primary care, academics, or further subspecialty training. Our graduates are very competitive in fellowships as well as general pediatrics positions.
Our program provides you with the opportunity to work closely with a committed and talented faculty who are both well-trained clinicians and dedicated teachers. You will work with board certified hospitalists on the inpatient wards, ambulatory pediatricians in your continuity clinics and subspecialists during subspecialty rotations. Many of our faculty members have trained at Lincoln and have chosen to stay on or have returned to the institution to continue the tradition of mentoring and excellent teaching.
Our residents take advantage of our relationship with Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and New York-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center to enrich their learning experiences. This relationship allows us to provide our trainees with excellent clinical experience in a community setting while also providing the opportunity to work with a variety of illnesses in those referral centers. Most of our patients present to us undiagnosed, allowing the residents the opportunity to build their clinical decision-making skills.
We were named the first Baby friendly hospital in the Bronx. Our Emergency room is one of the busiest in the tristate area and it is a level 1 trauma center. The Teen Center offers specialized adolescent services. Our facilities include a simulation lab, 24-hour access medical library, and computer support facilities. I hope you will consider how a training experience in the Bronx, New York can prepare you for your future career.
