OB-GYN Residency Program

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. Our residents receive training within all subspecialties of OB/GYN and provide care to a diverse, multicultural patient population. The large volume of patients provides residents with many learning opportunities to transform into excellent clinicians and surgeons. The objective of this program is to train future leaders in gynecology and obstetrics.

Obstetricians and gynecologists at Lincoln provide primary care and specialty care services for women throughout their lives. In 2016, there were 2,123 births. We are recognized as the first Designated Baby Friendly hospital in the Bronx by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to promote maternal and infant healthcare.

Our residents focus on developing skills in Intrapartum Management, High-risk Obstetrics, Gynecologic Oncology, Family Planning, Prenatal Care, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. In addition to primary care activities, our medical students and residents gain experience in the sub-specialty areas of Female Pelvic Medicine, Urogynecology (reconstructive pelvic surgery), Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Gynecologic Oncology.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology consists of 23 highly trained subspecialists and generalists.  Our dedicated staff of attendings is academically-oriented and take great pride in mentoring and educating residents. Attending physicians have high expectations for the residents, and provides them with progressive clinical responsibilities during the four year curriculum.  All residents are expected to direct residency teams during their chief residency year.  Our residents are trained to become excellent general obstetrician-gynecologists while being exposed to experts in the subspecialty world of OB/GYN.

We offer a four–year ACGME accredited residency training program. It consists of four residents per year and is divided into four years of progressive responsibility.   The program includes clinical rotations at Southside Hospital and NYP/Weill Cornell Medicine. The goal of the program is to aid resident physicians in acquiring the knowledge and clinical acumen required to provide outstanding care in gynecologic and obstetrical practice in a collegial environment. The program is extremely competitive and attracts and recruits some of the top students from medical schools around the country.

Upon completion of the program, the faculty expects all residents to be capable, caring clinicians, who are fully prepared to provide primary care services for women, and are qualified to further expand the knowledge acquired at Lincoln by entering a sub-specialty fellowship program.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln is one of New York City’s premier acute care hospitals. Our Emergency Department (ED) is a Level 1 Trauma Center. It is the fifth busiest in the nation and the most active ED in the region. During fiscal year 2016, we had over 371,000 ambulatory visits.
